Day three: 11/19/1999

Today we paddled past the fertilizer plant and on to Long Point, where we pulled up into two abutments and to the boat ramp.  This area proved to be the campsite (RV) and training center for the employees of the fertilizer plant.  We ate and I tried to buy a six pack of Pepsi, but they insisted that they were free, happily I accepted the offer.  At this point the wind had picked up.  And the chop was getting more serious.  So we got back into the kayaks and with spray skirt and jacket on, began paddling, my walkman was already water soaked so it was useless.  Upon leaving,  I set my paddle down to adjust the skirt, and the paddle floated off, with Eric already 30 yards ahead, with his walkman on, it took a loud yell to him to get his attention,  Eric paddled back and retrieved my paddle, luckily.  It was cold at this point and the paddle ahead of us was going to be brutal.  We paddled east/southeast (point to point) across the opening to South Creek past Indian Island to an area on the east side of Goose Creek Game Land.  With the binoculars, we could see over the tip of the game land, the red and green markers for the Intracoastal waterway.  This was a wonderful sight.  We then paddled around the point into the Waterway and it was smooth paddling.  We camped on a finger that appeared to be a sand ridge created from a past dredging of the waterway.  It was a nice campsite.  We stayed up late and spirits were high.   It rained during the night and I was forced to close my rain fly on the south side facing the wind/rain.  I tripped over Eric who was passed out in the dirt in the rain next to my tent.  It was hilarious.
