Kayak trip November 17-24.  Greenville, NC (tar river) to Cedar Island Ferry on Cedar Island, NC.

Prologue:

This trip was incredible.  The severity of paddling ranged from a  eight or so miles in a day to over 25.  It is given that every morning we made coffee,  and mine was excellent, using a coleman percolator.  Eric simply poured some coffee grinds into a pot of boiling water and drank it that way, to each is own.  Generally we left the campsites somewhat late (around 10:00am) every morning.  The campsites actually got more appealing with every night until Raccoon Island where the trend ended abruptly.  This trip was incredible and although I had done 2 to 5 hour kayak tours (led tours through marsh, ocean, and black water for customers in the Myrtle Beach area) this would be my first tour that consisted of overnight camping and living out of   a kayak.  I was lucky enough to have Eric Vaughn along as my partner.  He has been on numerous kayak trips including the south Carolina coast, the Georgia coast and numerous bicycle touring trips.  I used a Prijon Yukon Expedition that I bought from Vicky at Wind -n- Sea Outfitters in Myrtle Beach, SC.  It paddled well through the chop and the straights (thanks to a Wildwasser rudder) and proved to be a well adapted boat for any type of conditions.  It is very stable and roomy, but not overly long.  Eric paddled a Perception Chinook. I am sure that this is only the first of a series of kayak trips for me, Eric and I are already planning our next trip.
